The Book
In the fall of 2017, Presses de l’Université du Québec published Pratiques de gestion de l’innovation (Innovation Management Practices), a collaboration by a team of faculty members from the Master’s program in Innovation Management at the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) of Montréal.
Origins
This book stemmed from a desire on the part of the professors to develop connections between the various courses offered. A cross-sectional case study was developed for all the courses in the program, inspiring the professors to write a book where each would produce a chapter on their individual course. And so it was that 13 co-authors joined the project, led by Mickaël Gardoni, Director of the ÉTS Master’s degree in Innovation Management Engineering, and Alexandre Navarre, Vice-President of Numinor Conseil Inc. The foreword to the book was written by the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada and former astronaut.
Contents
Pratiques de gestion de l’innovation focuses on the innovative approach within SMEs. It includes 11 chapters covering the processes of innovation, from product creation to marketing.
It begins with the case study of a fictitious SME called Anchorpro which, by the nature of its organization and the products it offers, is very similar to a Quebec SME. Managers and employees of Anchorpro help develop the company by applying each of the concepts described in the various chapters of the book.
This interconnection of the chapters does not prevent them from being read individually, but readers can also approach the book chronologically, depending on their needs.
Reference
Given its cross-sectional nature, this book constitutes a reference work, or even a must, for all courses in the Innovation Management program.
Target Audience
The target audience for this book includes people interested in innovation topics, innovation policy specialists, industry innovation managers, and industrial or academic researchers. At ÉTS, this book is also intended for students:
- Enrolled in one of the Program’s courses in the final year of their bachelor’s degree. Note that they must have maintained a good academic standing to enroll in Innovation Management program courses;
- Enrolled in a ÉTS graduate program with additional courses in Innovation Management;
- Enrolled in the Master’s program in Innovation Management. They consist mostly of industry workers looking to make a career change.
This book can also be very useful for managers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-up entrepreneurs attempting to market a product or service.
